Raed Rafei

Raed Rafei is a Lebanese filmmaker, writer and multimedia journalist. Since 2004, he has worked as a reporter and blogger covering political, social and economic issues related to Lebanon and the Middle East for local and international publications. He worked as a researcher and filed producer on several TV documentaries. In 2012, he co-wrote and co-directed with Rania Rafei their first feature film: 74 (The Reconstitution of a Struggle). The film premiered in July 2012 at the FID Marseille where it received the GNCR prize. It has been screened since in international festivals worldwide, such as Visions du Reel, Switzerland, RIDM-International Documentary Film Festival of Montreal and Filmfest Hamburg. The film received several prizes including the Best Film award at Olhar de Cinema, Curitiba’s International Film Festival.

Here I am…Here you are is a poetic and political visual essay about love, relationships, commitment and identity. The film follows the quest of a couple from two different nationalities, Lebanese and Italian, to overcome real and imagined barriers separating them so as to build a possible future together. Made as a virtual road trip, using a mixture of media from photos, sounds, video and iPhone footage, the film delves into the fundamental questions of the nature of the couple.
