Walid Tayaa
Biography

From an early age, Walid Tayaa has adhered the Tunisian Federation of Amateur Filmmakers and to the Tunisian Federation of Film Clubs. Following his studies in Sociology, Walid works as assistant director on several productions. In 2006, he signs his first professional short film, Madame Bahja, (“Tous les Cinémas du Monde”, Cannes 2006). He takes part in many workshops and training programs in different countries, then in La Femis, in France, in 2007, under the direction of Eve Deboise. In 2009, he makes two short films, Prestige (Berlinale 2010) and Vivre (Grand prize in the 16th edition of the Tetouan Mediterranean Film Festival, RTVA Prize in the 7th Edition of Tarifa African Film Festival, Golden Tanit in Carthage Film Festival 2010, Official selection in Clermont-Ferrand 2012). He also makes a documentary, Les Passionnés (Doc à Tunis 2010, Panorama Carthage Film Festival 2010, Dubaï Filmmart 2010, Arab Film Festival, Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle 2012). In 2012, he makes two short films: a fiction, Boulitik (Official Selection in Maghreb des Films 2013), and a documentary, The Chronicle of an Ordinary Citizen (Official Competition in Ismailiya Film Festival 2013, Official Selection in Maghreb des Films 2013). He is currently developing 2 documentaries, In search of lost place and The Elephant in the Room, as well as a feature film entitled Fataria, written in Femis Scenario workshop and developed in Media Film Development, in Marrakech, and Sud Écriture, in Tunisia.

synopsis

Tunis, in the 20’s. Maltese, Italians, Tunisians meet. Stories of impossible love are born and flourish in the Medina, the old city of Tunis. The torments and the joys of the souls are whispered in alleys and houses… One day, the dream is over and these passions are nothing more than forgotten frescos… What happened to those love stories ? What is left of that period ? It’s a journey through time, a journey through the « golden years » !
